On a crisp autumn afternoon, Justin led Heather on a walk around the mirror pond at Manito Park, the trees ablaze with the season’s colors. As they strolled through, he reiterated something meaningful; that his stepfather had proposed to his mother in this very park, in another quiet corner just like this one. What Heather didn’t know was that Justin’s close friend Becky had stepped in as a generous last-minute favor after his planned photographer backed out suddenly, and was making her way to the park to capture the moment and he was biding time until she arrived. Beneath a small maple tree overlooking the pond, Justin got down on one knee and asked Heather to spend her life with him, presenting a vintage rose gold ring; its vivid purple sapphire, sourced from Sri Lanka, haloed by rose cut diamonds. Through happy tears, she said yes, exclaiming, “I get to be Mrs. Haldeman!” Thanks to Becky, every candid moment was captured on camera, and some additional photographs were taken, giving them their first engagement photos to treasure and share with friends and family. The evening ended with a delicious meal and celebratory champagne at one of their favorite restaurants, Luna. However, Justin couldn’t resist one final touch. He texted his friends that Heather had said no (much to her mortification). With spotty reception in the restaurant’s new indoor seating area, the message landed before a prompt follow-up photo and clarifying message could be sent, and his friends believed every word for what must have felt like an eternity, until the picture of Heather wearing her ring with a glass of champagne finally went through, and they and their wives all breathed a collective sigh of relief at his mischievousness.
